We are proud to share that Fabián Pavón and Ricardo Delgado Solis, doctoral students in UCSB’s Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies, have been accepted into the Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). This highly selective program supports the development of innovative, interdisciplinary Latinx humanities research across the U.S.

Fabián Pavón, a third-year PhD student and scholar-activist from Pomona, CA, focuses on public history, immigration, and social movements. His research documents the local immigrant rights movement in the Pomona Valley and Inland Empire (1990–2020). Deeply involved in organizations like the Association of Raza Educators and the Latina/o Roundtable, Fabián’s community activism shapes his scholarship.

Ricardo Delgado Solis, a fourth-year PhD student, explores the intersection of race, immigration, and queerness in the lives of undocumented Latinx individuals. His work draws from multidisciplinary methods to highlight the resilience and lived experiences of undocumented queer communities in the U.S., emphasizing humanized, community-rooted narratives.

Through the Crossing Latinidades program, both students will engage in professional development, interdisciplinary training, and mentorship to support dissertation advancement and future academic careers.
