Call for Applications: Crossing Latinidades 2026–2027 Fellowship & Summer Institute

UCSB PhD students are invited to apply for the Crossing Latinidades Predoctoral Research Fellowship and Summer Institute, a premier program for emerging Latinx humanities scholars at UIC (June 12–21, 2026). Applications are due February 1, 2026.

The Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Predoctoral Research Fellowship and the Summer Institute in Latino/a Humanities Studies Methodologies and Theories, to be hosted at the University of Illinois Chicago from June 12–21, 2026

To support prospective applicants, a virtual informational webinar will be hosted on December 11, offering guidance on the application process, program expectations, and tips for preparing competitive materials.

Eligibility:
The fellowship is open to doctoral students in the humanities or humanistic social sciences who will have completed their second or third year of a Ph.D. program by May 2026 and whose future dissertation projects focus on U.S. Latino/a topics. Students in MA/PhD programs must be in their third or fourth year by May 2026 and prepared to advance toward comprehensive exams and dissertation proposal development.

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents (Green Card holders), or DACA recipients with valid work authorization through May 2027.

Deadlines: Application deadline is February 1, 2026.

Fellowship Support:
Selected fellows receive a $30,000 nine-month stipend, tuition waiver, health insurance, and applicable university-covered fees. Fellows must also identify three potential faculty mentors and commit to full participation in all program components, including the Summer Institute, Writing LAB, virtual professionalization sessions, and Speakers Series throughout 2026–27.

Summer Institute Funding:
Participants receive shared housing, meals, and a $3,000 stipend intended to cover travel and personal expenses. Travel arrangements can be coordinated in advance and deducted from the stipend, which is issued after the Institute per UIC policy.
