Abstract

The 2017 Luis Leal Award for Distinction in Chicano/Latino Literature will be awarded to Norma Cantu.  Professor Cantu is an accomplished writer, poet, and literary scholar.  Her work has received numerous awards.  She is best known for her outstanding coming of age memoir, "Canicula, Snapshots of a girlhood en la frontera."  As in her memoir much of Profesor Cantu's work focuses on her native South Texas borderland experiences.  Her work has been recognized nationally and internationally.  Of her many contributions, she has been a member of the MLA Committee on Languages and Literatures of America editorial board.  We are honored that she will receive the 14th annual Leal Award.

The ceremony will begin at 4:00 PM on November 7, 2017 in the Corwin Pavilion.
